Overview of Downtown San Diego Partnership's Committees

ARTS & CULTURE COMMITTEE
The Downtown Partnership understands the importance that a vibrant arts and cultural sector plays in a first-class city. Through special events and advocacy, the members of this committee work to make downtown San Diego the regional center for music, theatre, dance and visual arts. The current focus of the committee is to raise awareness to the downtown residents about the diverse arts and cultural opportunities in downtown.

MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE
Downtown is the heart of the San Diego region. Through outreach efforts, marketing campaigns and special events, this committee works to enhance the image of downtown, help retain and expand businesses, and promote downtown San Diego as a desired destination to live, work, shop, play, dine and be entertained – a 24-hour city.

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE
The success of any membership-based organization depends on retaining and growing that base. This committee seeks to enhance its membership, promote its benefits and bring revenue to the Downtown San Diego Partnership.

RESIDENTS COMMITTEE
The success of any membership-based organization depends on retaining and growing that base. This committee seeks to enhance its membership, promote its benefits and bring revenue to the Downtown San Diego Partnership.

SOCIAL ACTION COLLABORATIVE
The purpose of this committee is to provide a forum for business, social service agencies, police, elected officials, faith-based organizations, and residents to coordinate efforts with respect to social services and security issues. Members of this committee seek out proactive solutions to assist people who are homeless, disadvantaged or in need of social services.

URBAN DESIGN & PLANNING
The Downtown Partnership has long been the watchdog of downtown planning. This committee monitors and advocates on relevant issues affecting the design and development of downtown San Diego. Its goal is to ensure that planning is done in a holistic manner, so that impacts of one development take into consideration the effect on the rest of the community. The committee also seeks to enhance downtown's regional transportation system with efficient circulation, public parking, and convenient linkages to regional auto, air, rail and transit connections.

WORKFORCE HOUSING COMMITTEE
The mission of this committee is to research and track ongoing community issues relative to workforce housing in the greater San Diego community. The committee will act as a central information web regarding existing workforce housing resources.

COMMUNITY COURT AD HOC COMMITTEE (PBID)
Community Courts offer an unconventional, yet effective, approach for addressing quality of life crimes such as public drunkenness, aggressive panhandling, vandalism, graffiti and disturbing the peace. The primary focus of this committee is to facilitate the implementation of a demonstration "pilot" project with the courts to illustrate the effectiveness of this comprehensive service-based program that reduces recidivism and brings restitution to the neighborhood where the offense was committed.

SAFETY NETWORK COMMITTEE (PBID)
The Clean and Safe Program and its Ambassadors are working hard to improve the appearance of the streets downtown and enhance public safety for visitors, residents and employees. This committee is comprised of solutions-oriented citizens, law enforcement officials and private security personnel who exchange information about maintenance and safety issues affecting downtown and communicate operational suggestions to the Property Based Improvement District (PBID) management.

AIRPORT AD HOC COMMITTEE
The Downtown Partnership supports the expansion of Lindbergh Field to its maximum potential. Beyond that goal, this subcommittee also supports a thorough evaluation of the concept of interconnecting North Island NAS and Lindbergh Field to create a truly international Pacific Basin hub airport and serve the growing needs of the greater San Diego metropolitan area.
